Abstract

Pasar Lama Tangerang (Tangerang's Old Market) is a culinary tourism destination with high appeal due to its culinary diversity and historical value. However, the increasing activity of tourists and vendors has created environmental issues that impact the comfort and image of the destination. The main problems that arise are air pollution caused by motorized vehicles passing through the culinary area and piles of garbage that have not been optimally handled. This study aims to analyze the environmental conditions in the culinary tourism area of ​​Tangerang's Old Market and identify factors that influence the quality of the tourist experience and the sustainability of culinary businesses. This study used a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, semi-structured interviews, and field documentation. Informants consisted of tourists, vendors, and area managers directly involved in culinary tourism activities. Data analysis was carried out through a process of reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions to describe the environmental conditions comprehensively. The results show that the existence of the Old Market culinary tourism area contributes positively to the local economy and increases the number of tourist visits. However, negative impacts such as traffic congestion, air pollution, and cleanliness issues remain major obstacles. Management efforts to limit vehicle traffic and schedule cleaning times have not been effective due to a lack of consistency and awareness among tourists and vendors. In conclusion, collaboration between management, vendors, and tourists is needed to maintain environmental quality through traffic control, improved sanitation facilities, and environmental awareness education to realize Pasar Lama as a sustainable culinary tourism destination.
