Dampak Kurang Berhasilnya Pengelolaan Sampah TPA Suwung terhadap Keberlanjutan Pariwisata Bali

Bali tourism is a strategic driver of the regional economy, yet its sustainability is increasingly threatened by environmental degradation, particularly the inadequate waste management at Suwung Landfill. Overcapacity, open dumping practices, leachate pollution, and methane emissions have generated ecological, aesthetic, and public health impacts that may weaken the image and competitiveness of Bali as a tourism destination. This study analyzes the impacts of inadequate waste management at Suwung Landfill on Bali tourism and formulates strategic waste management efforts aligned with strengthening the tourism sector. Using a qualitative descriptive design, this study applies thematic analysis to secondary data from scientific articles, official reports, and policy documents published between 2017 and 2025. The findings show that inadequate waste management at Suwung Landfill contributes to environmental deterioration, reduces tourists’ sense of safety and comfort, weakens destination image, and creates hidden economic costs through lower tourist satisfaction and loyalty. At the same time, tourism itself contributes significantly to waste generation, further increasing pressure on the landfill. The study recommends strengthening upstream waste reduction, limiting single-use plastics, reinforcing TPST as a pre-landfill filter, transforming landfill operations toward a sanitary landfill system, and promoting multi-stakeholder collaboration based on circular economy principles and green hotel practices. Integrating waste management with sustainable tourism.
